Lymphoma Scare

Hello all,

I'll try to keep the store as neat as possible so I don't waste anyone's time. Symptoms I have are the following:

- Red slightly swollen tonsils (over 6 months now)

- White-ish patch inside my mouth, on the cheek next to the tongue, but not on the tongue (noticed about 1 or 2 months ago)

- A lymph node on the right of next that feels quite hard and painless. I can't determine the size as sometimes it feels larger than other times. (noticed about 4 months ago now)

Tests and results:

- Blood test, all came back fine. The only thing pointed out was my white blood cell count was at 5.8 at the time (still normal range), and keep in mind I was fasted for about 20 hours.

- Ultrasound, the shape and size of the lymph node is normal.

Next step:

- Have been referred to ENT

Question:

- I have read up that you cannot determine lymphoma with ultrasound, only a biopsy can do that. However, can the ultrasound give me any confidence that it is not lymphoma? Considering that shape and size of the lymph node is supposedly totally normal.

Thank you to anyone in advance, much love.

  • Hi Wjochman,

I noticed you have a few questions about what tests can diagnose lymphoma so I just wanted to put you in touch with our team of cancer nurses as they will be able to explain this in more detail. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do give them a call as they are very knowledgeable and hopefully talking this through with them will help put your mind at ease.

Wishing you all the best with your ENT appointment when it comes through.

    Kind regards,
