20cm ovarian cyst and large amounts of fibroids

Hi all,

im just looking to see if anyone else had been in similar situation. I'm 38yrs old .
aplogise for the long winded message

firstly over the last 10yrs Iv been experiencing abnormal smear checks with extensive treatments ( Biposys , lilets) and two normal smears however last one was abnormal in April and had to have a repeat . So waiting that one .

in meant time Iv been experiences random server abdo pain , follow by sweats nausea vomiting and fainting . Which could happen at any time . Then experience extreme pain after sex and bleeding. And suffering with fatigue no matter what I do lately
my periods are only regular because I'm on the pill due to work I need to know when I'm getting them . I got an appointment with a gynaecologist specialist . Last week where she automatically took blood and scanned originally said she could see a mass of around 8cm but want me to have a ultrasound. And that I was to prepare my self for possibly surgery.
aftwr the ultrasound which I receive the next day . The doctor proceed to tell me that I have a cyst over 20cm and numerous of fibroids . And that she couldn't see my ovaries and to follow it she can't not tell if it  is cancerous and not to worry h it that I need more bloods and to have a MRI . ( as a medial professional we always tell people not to worry to remain sense if calm until final results ) and that's it's so a large that it will have to be removed.

I am worried as I certainly expecting to be hit with more cervical problems but not ovarian .

as anyone experienced anything similar and what kind of surgery did they have . And was a hysterectomy done in the process. I'm a plan for the worse kind of person to be prepared.

Thank you

  • Hello Meme1492 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the cyst and fibroids that were found during your ultrasound. I know this must be worrying but fingers crossed the MRI results will show they are not cancerous.

We do have a lot of discussions about ovarian cysts and fibroids so hopefully some of our members who are in a similar position will pop by soon to share their experiences and offer their support.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
