Worried sick waiting for tests - thyroid/throat cancer

Hi everyone, just looking for some advice

i have had tonsillitis a few times this year and all times have cleared up on their own but my tonsils don't look how they used to anymore. They're mostly always red and look lumpy. Anyway the last time I had it was recently and ever since I've had a swelling on the right of my neck near to my thyroid. which doesn't be seen by the eye, you can only really feel it. My GP said he thinks it's a goitre but has sent me for some tests to be sure. I feel fine in myself I haven't lost weight I've put weight on if anything, I haven't got any trouble breathing or swallowing although the past 2 days I've been neurologically thinking I can't swallow and nearly choking on my food because I'm so anxious but I know it's in my head because it happens when I think about it, when I'm not thinking of it I just swallow involuntary as normal. I also have been having acid reflux for a few months which I went to the GP about and he prescribed lanzoprazole and I had a blood test which didn't show anything untoward. As I write this now it's like a sensation in the right side of my neck and I don't know if it's actually something there or anxiety. If someone can offer some advice if they've experienced something like this before. I'm not asking for medical diagnoses I'm a nurse myself and I'm still confused and worried this could be cancer I just want someone to share their experiences to ease me please. I'm only in my 20's so am very worried. Thanks

  • Hi Aaan and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry about the swelling you've been contending with but hopefully the tests the doctor has ordered will show it's no cause for concern.

Hopefully you'll hear back from some of our members soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

Anxiety can be very tough to manage at times, but I hope the tips and advice given on the Every Mind Matters website will help.

    Kind regards,
