MRI 2WW

Hi Everyone,

I was referred early July under 2WW to neurology due to suspicious symptoms ongoing with severe headaches, swelling, sickness, seizures and visual disturbances.

I had an appointment with a neurogist who sent me for an MRI scan of the head which I had the following week. It's now three weeks on and I haven't had any results.

I have called the neurology department who are always very polite and acknowledge I am on 2WW and were assuring me every few days that I was getting a call from the consultant. That then turned to a letter, so I got my hopes up a bit and expected it to be on the better side of possible outcomes, but on receiving the letter it is just a copy sent to the GP which outlines why I was referred and what I discussed with the neurologist. It says they are still waiting for the MRI results.

When I met with the neurologist he told me they had a legal requirement under the pathway to close it down in a set time once the scan was complete.

I was told on the phone that they had the results and a report was being generated by the consultant, but judging by the letter this isn't the case.

Is this normal especially under the 2WW pathway?

Any advice and shared experiences are welcome.

Thank you.

  • Hi Stellahbee and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry you still haven't had your results yet. This must be very frustrating but fingers crossed the report will be completed soon and you can finally find out what the scan revealed.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will get back to you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat about this with one of our cancer nurses they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • It took 4 weeks before I received an outpatients appointment to discuss my mri results, I was on the 2 week pathway for gastro suspected upper cancer.

My gp was able to access basic details about my scan and I also rang the 2 Week department at the hospital 2 weeks after my scan. This gave me basic info that I had an indetermined lesion & to have another mri in 3 months time.

I found out at my outpatients appt I have an autoimmune disease affecting the liver, but yes I had to wait 4 weeks for fuller information. You could try ringing the consultants secretary.
