Is this something to worry about

Hi there, I have an 8month old currently breastfeeding. No problems at all breastfeeding,  then out of the blue I develop a sore on my nipple, put it down to milk duct blockage , tried everything to get rid with no success.

Got to the point feeding is eye watering painful, I have a hard lump behind nipple, the sore weeps a little bit but milk still flows out, after feeding I get a kind of tightening pain in the areola area and my nipple starts to flatten and goes slightly inverted.

Dr put me on antibiotics,  after a few days no changes, also put me on thrush cream just incase, still no change.

Does anyone know what the next step would be? Could this be more than a blocked duct?

We have breast cancer on both sides of the family which makes me worry more

  • Hi there ..

Don't panic as most lumps are benign.... but deffinatly get it tested ... could be as simple as milk duct blockage but best be safe then sorry ... don't worry if they put you on a two week pathway ... that's normal ... fingers crossed it's something easy to fix ...

Congrats on being a new mum ... l remember having to stop breast feeding as I had mastitis ( think that's the word) and lumps everywhere even down my arm .... so hopefully your is too ... Chrissie x
