Colonoscopy results...pending biopsy

Hi, I had a colonoscopy on Wednesday which revealed two 2cm polyps which were completely removed and sent for biopsy. I'm driving myself sick with worry and anxiety and the results won't be back for another few days if not a week. How do you cope waiting this long for results?

  • Hi,

hopefully your wait won't be too long and you will have your results soon!

I just kept talking about it if I felt I needed to and cried if I needed to but I also kept myself busy and tried to get out of the house as much as possible. I found the longer the wait the leas anxious I was tbh. In my head I thought to myself that I can't change what's said on the report and so I should stop worrying about it so much and that also helped!

In the end my polyp had low dysplasia and was completely excised so it was complete relief! I'm now just being put under surveillance and I'm having another colonoscopy in a years time. My polyp was 28mm and I had convinced myself it was cancer when it wasn't so you just never ever know!

    good luck x

  • Hey I just want to update everyone that my polyps turned out to be juvenille benign polyps.. a hereditary condition apparently that's usually first discovered in childhood. I've probably had them for years and years and never realised until they grew so big and caused all the typical colon cancer symptoms. PLEASE get regular colonoscopies and please stay positive because you never know. I convinced myself I had cancer and my mental health really suffered.

Thank you [@Laisc], you really encouraged me.
