Help. Node confusion ??

My Dad aged 80 has for the last four months had severe stomach pain every time he eats. He has also lost over a stone in weight, although this is because he refuses to eat because of the pain. He has been diagnosed as having a stomach ulcer with a node growing on it. He now has to go for CT scan to determine what help he may receive. when the consultant phoned to inform him of the findings, my Dad asked is it cancer or leukaemia. The consultant said no but would need CT scan results before he decides what treatment although there is no surgery and possibly radium or chemotherapy would be the option used. If there is no cancer why would radium or chemo help. I'm hoping my Dad hasn't picked the man up wrong, he is partially deaf so can anyone on here maybe advise if they have any info on this type of health issue.

  • Hello Grams01,

I am sorry to hear about your dad's weight loss and severe stomach pain. It is possible as you mentioned that your dad is partially deaf that he didn't understand everything that the consultant was telling him? Perhaps you could try and ring the consultant yourself or ask the consultant's secretary whether they would be able to repeat the information to you or arrange for a letter to be sent to your dad with details of his diagnosis? You could mention that your dad is a little bit hard of hearing and that you are worried that he didn't understand everything properly. Alternatively you could try ringing your dad's GP and seeing whether they have more information on their records and would be happy to tell you more about the diagnosis given your dad may not have understood what they told him. Perhaps you could make this phone call with your dad by your side if you can so that he can give consent if needed for the information to be shared.

I hope you get some clarity soon on this and find out whether your dad has been diagnosed with cancer or not. Keep us updated if you get a chance on what you find out!
