Continuous spotting

I was wondering if anyone had been through abyhtjng similar.

background- came off the depo about 10 minths ago, as I had been on for 4-5 years and thought it was causijg my weight gain.

Less than 6 months ago, i had a smear (which had to be done in hospital due to position of cervix. They said it looked red/inflamed/something I can't really remember but referred me for a scan but smear and scan both came back fine. However recently been spotting and bleeding daily, I thought it was my period returning as had all the other symptoms of period but it has continued for weeks. So went to GP and she referred me for 2ww, as she can't see anything due to cervix position but that's been rejected due to to the recent smear and scan. I'm at a loss of what to do?

  • Hello charlotte83,

It's reassuring that the smear and scan both came back fine but I can understand why you are still worried as you have been spotting and bleeding daily and it has been going on for weeks. It's surprising that your GP referral has been rejected but it sounds like this is due to the fact that your previous scans and tests were clear. It might be worth getting in touch with your GP again and asking for advice on what to do in this situation. You could also try and seek a second opinion on this - you can find out more about this on this page

I hope that this settles quickly and that you find out soon what is causing this spotting.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for the response Lucie.. the GP hasnt refused my referral, the consultant did based on thatni have recently had a normal smear and normal scan.

It was originally a 2ww but they have put it down as the normal route, so who knows when I will get a gynaecology appointment (I know someone waiting for an appointment from October).

In some aspects I feel ok, they don't feel too alarmed but they should know and have made the decision it doesn't warrant a 2ww. However, spotting daily can't be normal can it??

  • Thanks for explaining the situation Charlotte! It's good that they haven't totally cancelled the referral though and even if they have put you down the normal route you will hopefully be seen in not too long. It sounds like they don't think it is something to be urgently worried about. Perhaps you could try and have a chat with another GP to see what they think and whether this daily spotting doesn't warrant an urgent referral? It might reassure you to talk to someone else about this and get another expert medical opinion on the matter.

Best of luck with it. Everything crossed for you!
