I am having it as suspected ovarian cancer the ovaries are very high up  higher than the womb this is why I am so concerned.I really cannot cope with this.

Can you have sedation, sleepy but not exactly asleep? or even gas and air.

I don't know I am going to ring the doctors tomorrow I hope so,I don't want to delay prognosis so.

Please don't refuse it , yes ask about sedation or other options. 

I hated the thought of smears or any type of procedure but basically the hysteroscopy has saved my life. Yes I had GA as had to also have a lump removed. 

Please find out your options and try and it get it done x
 

Hi I recently had a hystoscopy without GA, it was uncomfortable and quite painful at times but bearable.  The staff were so lovely though and all female. I had another one 2 weeks ago under GA, which has unfortunately come back yesterday showing I have cancer in my womb. So my advise is don't delay and have the procedure, if it's too uncomfortable they will stop, they tell you that you are in control and can ask them to stop at anytime. Wishing you all the best 

I have just had one this morning following on from a previous one last year. On both occasions I could have waited for general anaesthetics but for me time was of the essence and who knows when I might have got an operating theatre slot with the current NHS backlog. The staff were brilliant on both occasions and I felt totally in control. It was uncomfortable and a little painful on occasions ( yes, my last 2 smear tests have been difficult as I now have atrophy and cervical stenosis following menopause) but definitely not barbaric. Indeed I can think of far more painful experiences and it's obviously safer than a general anaesthetic if the consent forms are anything to go by. This morning I was offered gas and air when she was taking the biopsies (I said yes). On both occasions I've come out shaking my head at how nervous I had been and thinking I could do it again the next day if I had to.

Oh that's good.It's only about a 2 week wait and I feel much better now I know I will be a sleep,they were very understanding as I suffer extreme anxiety and have a narrow cervix it's the best choice for myself.

Excellent news. If I hadn't had previous experience of the procedure and knew I'd get a day patient slot so quickly I might have been tempted. Good luck for the outcome.
