Incomplete colposcopy

Hi!

My smear test came back moderate changes and HPV positive.  As a result , I  just Colposcopy and apparently it was incomplete due to nearly closed cervix.  No biopsies were taken and the Consultant offered either performing LLETZ or waiting for 6 months and redoing smear test.

Are these really the only 2 options?  isn't there a camera that could be inserted into the area to assess and take biopsy if needed? It seems a bit brutal to remove part of cervix based on not being able to see the complete cervix?   Also no biopsies were taken..... am I missing something?

Many thanks for any help on this!

  • Hello Tiinushka,

I am sorry to hear your colposcopy was incomplete due to a nearly closed cervix. I am not sure myself what options would be available to you but your consultant will be in the best position to tell you more about this and to explain everything fully to you. Feel free to talk to the consultant about this and to ask these questions that spring to your mind and whether it is normal for no biopsies to be taken.

Our nurses will also be happy to talk things through with you so don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope you manage to get this resolved soon.

    Best wishes,
