Awaiting pathology results - 90mm colon polyp & appendix

Hi All,

Just needing a bit of a vent and trying to make sense of things I guess!

For the last year I've been experience severe cramps, diarrhea, and swollen stomach - I look 8/9 months pregnant at times and it's rock hard. Last December I had a colonoscopy that revealed a 3cm polyp in the transverse area of the colon. They weren't able to remove it at the time so arranged another appointment.

I finally had it removed via EMR polypectomy on Thursday last week. However when they got to it, it was actually now 9cm not 3cm. On the report they've said it's 'a very large 90mm Paris Isp villous (pit pattern IV) lesion.'

It was a nightmare to remove, took them 2.5 hours and ended up so poorly at the end of the procedure and afterwards. They also found polyps in my appendix that they were able to remove, but if they come back dysplastic I will need an appendicectomy.

I have had a few small polyps over the years that were benign but never anything like this. I know it's silly just have a really bad feeling in my gut.

He said pathology results would take 2-3 weeks. Only a week in and the waiting is awful.

  • Welcome to the forum, EWhit90.

I'm sorry to hear that in addition to having all these uncomfortable symptoms, the EMR polypectomy did not go as you'd hoped.

After what they found it's only normal for your to feel anxious about the nature of these polyps but please try not to worry until you hear more from your medical team, as stress only makes matters worse in times like these.

Hopefully others who have been through a similar experience and know how desparing the waiting game is will be along shortly to chat with you and provide support. In the meantime it might be a good idea to focus on other things, if you can.

Also, please know our team of nurses would be happy to take your call if you feel that asking some questions to someone medically trained might help. They're available on this free phone 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes,

  • Also currently in the waiting game. I'm sending so much love and support to you. It helps calling people like the moderator said. I did tonight, had a good cry, now I'm back to waiting.
