Post sigmoidoscopy is this normal?

Sorry if this is too much information**************
I had a sigmoidoscopy on Sunday to investigate blood and mucus after bowel movements.
They found and removed one small polyp. The nurse mentioned I will probably need a colonoscopy so they can check the rest of the colon.
I have been having cramping since and today at work I passed a fleshy pink thing bigger than an old 50p piece.  I sent a photo to my gp and they said it looks like flesh/tissue and not a blood clot. I am now passing blood tinged mucus.
tThey have prescribed me antibiotics but didn't really know what it was.

Has anyone had a similar experience post polyp removal?
When I was in recovery a HCA commented I was young to have a polyp, I'm 42. Should I be concerned they will find more? Could the procedure dislodged a larger polyp from the other side of my colon?
I lost my wonderful beautiful mum to cancer a year ago last Friday. She is person i would turn to with worries I'm missing her more than anything.

feeling worried and in pain

  • Hello Lilykat and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat!

I can understand why you are feeling worried especially given that you have had all these symptoms but you have done the right thing to flag this with your GP and to send a photo. The colonoscopy will shed more light on what is going on and I hope you won't need to wait too long for the procedure. It's good that they have removed this small polyp and I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have had a similar experience post polyp removal.

I am so sorry to hear you have lost your mum. It only happened a year ago so all this is still very raw for you. But try not to anticipate the worst as there are so many other reasons that might explain your symptoms.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that you find out more soon and that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you very much for your reply,

I'm trying not to worry too much although it is so hard especially as I'm still grieving for mum ️.

She had a very aggressive cancer and was in so much pain before she passed. It was heart breaking to see her going through so much.

I was wondering whether I should send the picture to the consultant? When I first passed it it looked like a formed polyp like a large grape.  I finally had a bowel movement yesterday. Before then it was blood and mucus only.
There was some old blood in the movement.

The antibiotics are making me feel really sick, which isn't helping.

    Many thanks again

    X

  • Hello again Lilykat,

I can imagine it must be so hard for you as you are still grieving your mum and all this is still very raw. Perhaps you could get in touch with the consultant and ask whether they wouldn't mind taking a look at the picture and whether it would help them with their diagnosis. It would be a good opportunity also to mention that the antibiotics are making you feel a bit queasy and they will hopefully have some suggestions for you to help you with this.

I hope you get some answers soon Lilykat!
