Referral….scared to death!

Okay so I've been having some discomfort in my armpit and tenderness in my breast which I didn't think too much of but then I noticed over the weekend that my boob was swollen and very veiny. I went to the docs today expecting to be told to stop worrying but instead she said she can feel a lump in my armpit and a thickened area on my boob. She also seemed really concerned that I found the examination to be incredibly uncomfortable. I'm absolutely worried sick now, trying to tell myself that most people who get referred are given the all clear but it's so hard. I have two very young children, I'm just going out of my mind

  • Hi [@Cheekymonkeyemma]‍,

Its so spooky, I could have written this post! Literally 11am today I was sat in my doctors office having a very similar conversation! I have a lump under my arm and some pain in the breast on the same side. The doctor has made an urgent referral for ultrasound of the area. Our children are 5, 3 and 3 months and were my first thought also.

Sorry I can't be of any help but wanted to come and say, you're not alone. I hope your referral is through quickly and it turns out to be nothing to worry about x

  • Hi [@Snuffleumpacus]‍, im so sorry to hear that you are in the same situation. I walked in the docs at 11.15 convinced I was being paranoid and would be told to stop being silly but walked out by 11.30 doing everything I could to stop myself bursting into tears. It's so frightening.

im hoping I get my referral soon, I don't know how the next few days are going to feel while I wait.

hope you get your referral soon too and that it's good news for both of us xx

  • [@Cheekymonkeyemma]‍ I totally understand what you mean. The appointment was literally one of a hundred things on my to do list for today and was expecting to just tick it off as 'done' so was totally floored when the doctor said it was significant and the referral was urgent!

Please do come back and let us know how you get on and I will do the same x

  • [@Snuffleumpacus]‍ will do, let's hope it isn't a long wait. Take care xxx
