Biopsy results

Hi all. I was referred to an ENT consultant early July. From there I was referred for ultrasound and then a biopsy. I had an appointment come through the post for late August, with another consultant, but I had my biopsy pretty quickly. The follow up appointment is on my birthday, and I really don't want any bad news then lol. After lockdowns I had actually made plans for this birthday! Anyway, as it has already been two weeks since the biopsy was done, should I ring hospital to try and get the results earlier? I don't want to pester, but nor do I want to wait almost another month, especially with it falling on my birthday. When the letter came through I did try to change it but all appoinments were full. I am prepared for bad news, just from them deciding from the ultrasound to do biopsies on nearby areas not just the original lump, but obviously hoping for good news. I just want to know what I'm dealing with then I can get cracking with it! If it's bad news would they contact me anyway as my appointment is a few weeks away?

  • Hi Firebaseladybird,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your dilemma. Unfortunately this waiting time is fairly common, and if they've already made a follow-up appointment with you then it sounds as if that will be the time that you get your results. If you're not sure if this is the case, you could always call the hospital to double check - but perhaps after another week or so, as it can take several weeks to get results.

If you do need to wait until the appointment, it's not possible to read anything into the time taken - it doesn't generally mean anything one way or the other; sometimes it's simply a case of long waiting lists.

I hope that the wait doesn't feel too long.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
