Oral Cancer - Appointment forthcoming

Hi everyone....I have an appt tomorrow, finally and am really scared. It's with a dentist....it's been a long story but to cut it short, I went to the docs twice weeks ago, once re my tongue and secondly re my gum! The second time the doc was totally dismissive and washed her hands of it saying I should see a dentist. Got on with that, registered (had to go private as no dentists seem to be taking NHS patients at the moment) and was given an appt on 15th July. This was then cancelled as the dentist had to self isolate. Next appt given for tomorrow.

The reason I am really scared now is that, should it be sinister, oral cancer is fast moving and time is paramount. It has been so long getting to this point!!! And I understand success rate is not good unless caught early. Also, the treatment etc. is horrifically invasive and disfiguring.

My question is, is there anybody out there who could tell me of their experiences re biopsies, treatment etc. Dr Google is terrifying so I have stopped!

Thank you

  • Hey Bassplayer,

How did you get on at the dentist the other day? I'm sorry no-one was able to get back to you before you went but I hope the dentist was able to have a good look at your tongue and gums and put your mind at ease.

If there's been anything playing on your mind since you saw them you're very welcome to talk things through with our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you so much for your concern. It is a lonely place, it seems, oral cancer....and I feel for you all.

I went to the specialist dentist who was lovely and honest and caring.....it seems all is okay and for now I am so relieved.

So I thank you for caring and thinking of me. Also, to anyone out there who reads this; I was so convinced and so very scared but at the end a very long road, take heart, it is not always bad news!!!

    xxx Bassplayer
