Urgent referral to Gynaecological Oncology

Went to my doctors surgery to investigate a mass at the entrance of my vagina and worrying symptoms such as irregular bleeding and pelvic pain. Upon inspection, the nurse (she had only been a nurse for 1 year) said that it could possibly be a prolapsed cervix, but she wasn't sure because I'm young (23) and I only have 1 child, so she consulted with a Dr and I've been put on the 2ww. I have an appointment at the hospital in the gynaecology oncology department to find out exactly what it is and why I'm getting those symptoms. I'm a little worried because I'm being kept in the dark completely and my appointment letter never even said what the appointment was for or if there will be any tests.  Please help!

  • Welcome to the forum Chloe although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

Hopefully some of our members who have had appointments with the gynaecology oncology department will share their experiences with you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our nurses about this you're very welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this information we have about urgent referrals will help put your mind at ease as well.

    Kind regards,
