More waiting…

Hi,

four weeks ago I felt a lump in my right breast. Unfortunately I found it on a Friday evening, meaning i was unable to contact my GP until Monday. Spoke to the GP who immediately referred me to the breast clinic. Not alarming. I've had a previous lump and was aware of the process.

in the meantime I was copied in to the letter to my GP. The letter read "clinically concerning" regarding the lump.

Two weeks later, to the day, for beast clinic appointment, to be examined. Yes, definite lump you'll receive another appointment within two weeks for mammogram, scan and possibly a biopsy.
10 days later I had mammogram and scan. The radiographer assured me it's a cyst. Relief!
Two days later I received a call from breast nurse informing me they have discovered "white dots" on the mammogram. An appointment will be sent out for a biopsy. When I asked "what does white dots mean"? She informed me they would not know until I had the biopsy.
So after feeling utter relief I'm now a little concerned again.
The waiting has got to be the worst part about it!!

  • Hello Franky13

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently needed to visit the beast clinic. I'm sure it was a relief when you were told that the original lump was a cyst and of course it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the spots that the mammogram has picked up.

It's important to get these areas looked at more closely but please do try to keep in mind that there's every chance that they could be nothing of concern. The biopsy results will give the breast team much more information about what's been picked up.

In the meantime, I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I know they'll be happy to chat with you and offer some advice, information, and reassurance ahead of your appointment. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Franky13 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your response.

I will let you know how I get on.

  • I've since had the biopsy and results. On the 14th of September I received the diagnosis. I have intermediate grade DCIS and they are strongly suspicious I also have grade 1 invasive breast cancer.

I was advised I could have a lumpectomy or mastectomy. I have chosen the later due to the extensive clarifications throughout my breast. I have opted for immediate reconstruction. Waiting on tests and hopefully will be able to have the DIEP reconstruction

I feel ok about the diagnosis. Prognosis looks good.  I feel it's probably worse for my loved ones. Just hoping all goes well with the surgery now.
