Worried I've been misdiagnosed with Pcos

Hi. I am 54 and was diagnosed with very high type two diabetes and high blood pressure and cholesterol. Am also peri menopausal. I have been bloating loads and was told it is likely to be the metformin medication. I had kidney cancer 20 years ago resulting in a left sided nephrectomy. So was sent for a scan last week as a precaution. The result is 16 folicals and a diagnosis of pcos. Could this be a misdiagnosis as I have had three children and many many scans in my life. In 2018 my scan was normal. I understood that I would have had pcos all my life and assumed it would have been evident before on previous scans. So I am now panicking slightly that I am being misdiagnosed.

  • So I'm on here for info about my mum but I just saw your post and thought I'd reply

PCOS is common with underactive thyroid and diabetes as it causes insulin resistance, I'm 43 and have PCOS it was only diagnosed last year.. I've never had any symptoms when I was younger... I have really bad bloating which PCOS can cause
plus weight gain..I take metformin too for PCOS apparently it can come and go through your life weight gain can mess with your hormones levels especially testosterone and cause your ovaries to produce excessive hormones which can make PCOS worse

I've had a scan with multiple cycts on they look definitive on a scan like a string of pearls so there is a difference in what they look like compared to ovarian tumours

    hope that helps xx
