Found small lump and swelling and pain under my armpit

Hi all!
Im new here and never been through anything like this before so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

im 24 years old and 3 weeks ago I found a small lump in my right breast and I was sure it was hormonal, I contacted the doctors last week as it wasn't shifting and my right side of my right breast (towards my armpit) started to swell and felt bruised to touch.

My doctor said that I should wait for my next period and if it's still there to go back, even though ive had 2 bleeds in the time that the lump was first apparent. I'm going out my mind with worry, the bracker(?) gene runs in my maternal family, my great grandma and grandma and aunt all had breast cancer from the age of 30/40. I just feel because I'm young that my concerns haven't been taken seriously as the doctor said I don't reach the referral criteria because of my age and that im not any contraception(?!) I don't know what to do anymore.
I have a young son and I can't stop thinking about the worse.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? Just looking for someone to chat to really, struggling to cope.

  • Hi Meg0416,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your current difficulties and I can understand this must be unsettling.

As the doctor has given you an opportunity to go back if it is still there, then the first thing to do may be to wait and see if it is still there at the appropriate time and then to make another appointment as necessary.

If at any point you feel you're not getting answers or being listened to, you can always ask for a second opinion.

Our nurses are also available if you ever feel you'd like to talk things through with someone. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
