New moles appeared on Vulva

Hi All,

I'm 29 and I've had several marks/freckles/moles appear on my vulva (outer lips but marks are located on the inside) over the past few months. They're medium brow/tan in colour, flat, located all on the left and some are large and some are small. I've seen my GP and his diagnosis is that they're benign. However, I still have concerns and wonder whether it's worth getting a second opinion? I think my worry is that they're new and i just don't know how common it is to get freckles/moles there? I'm covered in freckles but never had any there. I'm also concerned that other options weren't considered, such as maybe a hormone imbalance causing them?

  • Hi Both,

So pleased for you jo8! With the removal, you'll not have to worry about it again which is great! A shame your GP should've been more careful with their words, definitetly feed that back! I hope all goes well with the surgery X

I spoke to the hospital today, i'm based in Wales so i know the wait times are different but i could be looking at a 25 week wait for an appointment...it depends how urgent the hospital deem it, if it's very urgent it's 4-6 weeks and if it's normal urgent (not even sure what that means?) then it's 20-25 weeks! I checked with the receptionist at my GP and it was definitetly sent as urgent. I think i'm going to make an appointment with my GP (he's not available till Monday) and have a chat about whether it can be sped up/if he think it's necassary. I've also made enquries at my local private hospital. I think 25 weeks would just be to much for me! (it's already been 3). I also think my GP knew this would happen as he advised to call him if i hadn't heard in a few weeks, so hopefully he'll be open to trying to get it sped up a bit! X

  • So after all that my GP rang me not long ago and the hospital had responded to him today, they feel it's something called Vular Melanosis which is benign! They'd still like to see me and may do a biopsy but all signs are pointing to that it's nothing to be concerned about.

  • Hey!

oh my god what amazing news! im so happy for you! today is now a good day again and at least your mind can finally relax! have they said when they would like to see you? i go in on the 13th for my surgery to have mines removed! i thought they would have removed it today but the doctor did gived me a laugh and say he didnt think i would like to be jagged with numbing there! after a split second i did agree! haha!!

cant stop smiling for you honey!

    xxx

  • That's wonderful news. As for your GP, NICE have just brought out new guidance for GPs when they assess a patient's mole, especially regarding how they speak to the patient. There must have been lots of complaints about GP's either being abruptly dismissive or putting the fear of God into their patients. Some of it is down to lack of education in this field and NICE is trying to address this although I don't know if it will happen in my lifetime! xx

  • So pleased that you too have received good news and you haven't been left in limbo for many more weeks. xx

  • Hi girls,

sorry been quiet! So had my surgery yesterday and wasn't as bad as I thought! Mild pain after lumpectomy but lots of painkillers to help!

Angie you're so right GP's have definitely been getting in trouble for scaring the life out of people!!!

hope you're both safe and well!

  • So glad you are recovering from your surgery. Crossing fingers that you aren't waiting too long for the results & they bring good news. xx

  • Hi! I've had a mole on my vulva for about 4 months now and the GP keeps on dismissing it and won't do anything about it, won't even refer me to a specialist. I've had more symptoms too + the mole and I am thinking of going private. I live in London and I'm not sure what kind of private I have to go to. Is it gynocologist or dermatologist or is it a special clinic? It would mean a lot if you can help me. Thank you so much xx

  • Hi Jo8,

I know your post is old but was just wondering what your results came back with regarding the biopsy

  • Hwllo

i was very very lucky for it to be benign but they said they were glad to get it off just incase!
