Scared I have colon/rectal cancer

Hi

I'm 19 and I've been bleeding a few times when passing my stools. It's only ever been a bit when i wipe but i was convinced it was just a fissure however the other day i had the absolute worst abdominal pain accompanied by chills. This only lasted for about 4 hours and went away although I still have a bit of stomach pain. Then the next day as I passed my stool, I noticed the water in the toilet was red and when I wiped a lot of blood came out. The stomach ache disappeared though after however I'm sick with worry that it could be cancer. I rang 111 and explained the situation and they said a gp will ring me back however I'm currently at uni and my GP is 3 hours away at least and because I suffer anxiety I'm not sure if i'll make it to the place at uni therefore waiting until i get to my actual gp which could be a few weeks time. Has anyone else suffered these symptoms, do you think I should worry about it? I'm also terrified of maybe having to have a colonoscopy or anything up there

  • Welcome to the forum Mia although I'm sorry for the worry this is causing.

I do hope you were able to talk through your concerns with the GP when they called you back and they've been able to put your mind at ease but hopefully you'll receive some support and advice from some of our members who have been in a similar situation soon.

I hope you have some coping strategies in place to manage your anxiety already but if you're starting to find it a tad difficult to keep under control, it may be worth getting in touch with Anxiety UK

    Kind regards,
