Mole on my little girls scalp...

Found dodgy mole on my little girls scalp. It's different colours, jagged borders and not symmetrical. Took pics and sent to gp. He wanted to see her.. He took pics and sent to dermatology. They wanted to see her. Dermatologist looking at it and phoned for 2nd opinion. They then come in room. Mentioned white streaks? I did Google. Now scared. At moment they want to monitor her mole. So took pics and measurements. They said if see any changes before next appointment to ring dermatologist directly. I took pics today and compared to first pics sent gp. Definitely change in mole. Got bigger and darker. So worried.

    I can understand this must be unsettling - it's good to hear that you've got this checked out and that they are monitoring it. You can therefore get back to them if there are any changes. In the meantime do try to avoid Googling it as the information you find is often not relevant and may only increase worry.

    You could perhaps set the times that you will check it so as to avoid checking it too often which again may lead to more worrying and uncertainty.

    Any changes or concerns in particular, do get back to the doctor.

    Thank you.. I compared photos sent originally to my gp and pic took yesterday. Definitely change in mole. As its got darker and grown into the tan part of the mole. Going to ring back dermatologist today. As its on my little girls scalp and her age.. Didn't want to remove without monitoring. As leave scarring. But with family history of skin cancer, and its changing.. Just don't want to risk it.

    Hi,

    It's good that you can ring the dermatologist back if you notice a change in the mole. Hopefully they will take another look and decide what is best going forward. It's very, very rare for someone so young to have a malignant mole (I only know of two young children & one of those is in Australia). If you have skin cancer in the family there is a possibility it could be genetic but only if the cancer is melanoma (basal cell and squamous cell are not hereditary) and only usually if it's a very close family member (parent, child or sibling).

    Thanks for reply Angie... Sent photos over today. Consultant agreed definitely a change.. But looks like mole growing into tan area. He has brought appointment forward to discuss things further.. Yes glad its very rare in children.. So holding onto that. Thank you
