Still very worried ongoing breast pain

Hi

I posted here a while about ongoing pain around my breast and in my nipple. It started nearly sixteen months ago when I leaned over awkwardly and it felt like something pulled or tore at the side of my nipple.

Long story short I have had many different medications, seen private and nhs physio and private oestopath. Also nearly a year ago attended breast clinic where mammogram was normal.

Recently went back to gp where I was seen by associate physician and had another breast exam and everything felt fine.

This has consumed my life for so long and I was just wondering if anyone has had anything similar or know if anything can be torn and take so long to heal.

I am getting so depressed with this feeling all the time and no diagnosis .

Thank you x

  • Aw I'm so sorry to hear this and that you're still in pain. I've been to GP several times now and attended breast clinic twice. First visit I had mammogram and examination and was told I had multiple cysts like bubble wrap and clear otherwise despite nipple change. That was March this year. I had burning pain too and was told I had non cyclical pain so given leaflet and advised to use ibuprofen gel and pain killers.
I felt relieved but pain didn't go and nipple was also uncomfortable so went back to GP in June and was examined again. Again no cause for concern but in July I asked to be referred back to clinic.
Fast forward to August and back to clinic. Further examination with no concerns but ultrasound was carried out of top of breast where asymmetry found. This confirmed multiple cysts but no concerns so told to use pain relief and get good supportive bra.
Got called for routine mammogram in September which was also clear.
GP has no concerns when I was back again three weeks ago as I had under arm pain in same side but told was no concern after I was examined again.
I worry every day too thinking something is still not right and nipple still looks different but nothing showing up. My arm also feels tight but no swelling found when doc examined me. I worry that maybe I'm imagining this now as anxiety levels are through the roof!
Should I be reassured after two clear mammograms?
    X

  • Hi

I understand how you feel as I also still feel worried. I am not sure that there is anything else we could do. I have had prescriptions for gabapetin, naproxen and also sertaline. I didn't find any of them beneficial. I have also paid for private physio and oestopath with no relief either. Maybe it is something we are just going to have to live with ️

  • Hi WW

Maybe we do just have to live with this?
I am feeling a terrible tingling sensation all over my chest area, back and neck now it's like a tickling, crawling sensation so doc thinks could be nerve damage.  I also suffer from neck and shoulder issues but pain under arm is coming and going.

Do you have days when distraction helps with the pain at all?
Im finding that if I can do something when pain is severe it can ease for a bit.
Situation still consumes me every day though when no one can give you an answer and breast changes are concerning x

  • Hi Pauline

Gp did think mine could be nerve damage in the beginning that is why she prescribed gabapetin. I took them for a couple of months but they did not help!!!

Yes mine does sometimes feel like a tingling, crawling sensation. It is so hard to describe.

I think I have got used to it now after two and a half years. I still really worry about it, when it first started I was out of my mind with worry and could not think of anything else.

I wish we could get an actual diagnosis ️

  • Hi worrywart

    how are you these days?
I am still in pain especially underarm now. Going back to doctors again soon as I just can't accept this pain any longer.
I hope you are feeling better now.

  • Hello!
I have exactly the same thing at the moment! Pain in right breast, back in December I was running and I had a horrible shooting pain in my breast and since then it's not been right, pain under arm and my ribs also.

I am 37... thinking it could be hormones changing possibly peri menopausal?

Doctors couldn't feel any lumps and didn't seem concerned but I am so worried

  • Hi there worriedgirl

Have you been to see your GP about this?

  • Hi.I too have had this for nearly 5 months, under my breasts in the ribs and shooting pains in my left breast only.I too have had tests ,and nothing showed up,but I think it is Costochondritus.Look it up and you will possibly find all your symptoms match it.There are exercises you can do to help it.I hope this helps you.It is horrible isn’t it when you keep getting intermittent pains in your breast and right in to the nipple.

  • I am suffering the same, but my ribs are also affected with the left breast pain.I think it is Costochondritus
