Armpit lump - 2 weeks post birth

Hi,

Hoping to get some positive or reassuring advice!
I gave birth to my beautiful twins 13 days ago. I am not breast feeding.
I have found a lump under my right armpit. It's in the centre under the skin, not visible on the surface. It feels hard- ish, is painless and mobile. It's feels round and quite large maybe the size of a grape.

I went to my gps expecting them to say it was pregnancy related or a cyst however they gave me antibiotics initially and said if it doesn't go down with those they will refer me urgently to the breast clinic for cancer screening.

since then I have been in bits - I can't function. my hormones and lack of sleep aren't helping. I just cry everytime I look at my little boy or my new babies.

The lump hasn't changed with the antibiotics and I'm back to the gps tomorrow. I'm guessing so they can make the referral to the breast clinic.

Anybody experienced something similar? And had a positive outcome I'm terrified I'm going to leave my babies

  • Hello,

Congratulations on the birth of your twins. And so sorry to hear you are going through a tough time!

My daughter turned 1 last week and I am breastfeeding and have been referred to the breast clinic for the 2nd time this year due to a new lump. Mine is also in my armpit.

I know you said you aren't breastfeeding however try to remember your body has been through a lot and that it's likely due to hormonal changes. But I completely sympathise and understand why you are so worried, I feel exactly the same but am trying to remain positive.

    Sending love x

  • So sorry to hear you are going through this for a second time. Thank you for your reply I'm really hoping it will be hormones or something but it's hard to shake the negative thoughts.

sending you lots of love and positive vibes for your next appointment x

  • Hi Kat,

I had something similar with my first child (almost 24 years ago).  I had very strong antibiotics and dressings each day - think it was magnesium sulphate with a dressing to cover.  Antibiotics made me very sick but the dressing drew out the absyss/cyst.  Fingers crossed for you that it turns out to be just that. x

  • Thanks for your reply!

After visiting the GP again today. They have checked the lump again and squeezed it so hard, felt a big pop and the lump had gone! They are confident it was just a cyst!
I'm on antibiotics and no longer need the referral to the breast clinic!
anyone reading this a painless hard lump does not necessarily mean any thing sinister!!! I had no pain at all with mine and Dr Google made all my symptoms point to that!!!
