Hi there- I'm almost 25 and just seeking some general advice regarding a new and quite alarming case of bleeding after intercourse. I've noticed over the last few months that my periods had become more heavy/painful and my cycle more irregular but I put all of this down to my copper IUD. Last week (day 10 of cycle) I noticed a small amount of blood when I wiped but thought nothing of it. Fast forward to Saturday evening and during intercourse I started bleeding very heavily and had cramping pain, though the amount of blood was the main concern. It was copious amounts of fresh red blood, dripping down legs, all over the floor. I then passed some small clots, and then a piece of 'tissue' which was about 5cm in length, fleshy coloured, and sort of irregular and 'bobbly'. Since then the bleeding has slowed right down, I've done a home pregnancy test (negative), and sent off an STI kit though my partner had recently been tested and was clear. I phoned by GP as I was feeling quite concerned but they sort of dismissed me and said that bleeding between periods was normal and that it might be due to the coil. Other than awaiting the results of the STI test, im unsure what to do as i am not totally satisfied with what the GP is saying. Considering seeking a second opinion? I know I'm very young for anything 'sinister' but good old doctor Google has made me think that somebody should be at least doing a speculum exam as it may be a polyp or possibly a fibroid? Anyway I'd really appreciate if anyone could reassure me that I'm not being overly dramatic as I'm feeling really rather worried about the whole thing.
