Thyroidectomy results taking so long

Hi,

Im looking for advice on how long people's results from a Partial Thyroidectomy took to come back? I had a THY3F inconclusive biopsy result on a 2cm lump so surgery had to be done. The consultant advised 2 weeks for results but called me last week to say Pathology were still working on my results and suggested we delay our Consultation until next Monday which will then be 4 weeks after the operation! I'm driving myself crazy assuming the length of time it's taking is because its something bad . Has anyones results taken so long? And what were the outcomes ? I know if it shows cancer I will need the other half of my Thyroid removed and possible further treatment,  its just the not knowing that's making my anxiety go through the roof!

    I'm sorry to hear that you've had to wait quite a few weeks now for your pathology results. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things. 

    Try not to read between the lines about why it's taken 4 weeks for your results to come back. It may be something as simple as the pathology team being short-staffed or having a technical problem in the lab. It's easy to think the worst but there could be any number of simple, but frustrating, reasons for the delay.

    Hi Rosie,

    Hope all is well. I've just seen this message as I am currently going through the exact same thing. I'm waiting for my results post the op and currently anxious. I've been told about the treatment that would be needed, if malignant which would be the other half out too and radioactive iodine. However, I'm still waiting for the lab results to come through. Out of interest, how long did yours end up taking?
