Sore throat, inflamed tastebuds for 15 months?

Hi,

I found myself on here after googling and seeing similar posts. So about March/April 2020 I had a sore throat, sore neck, lots of mucus feeling down back of throat and swallen taste buds and just felt rubbish!.. anyway I went to the docs she said neck felt fine, throat looks fine gave me a nasel solution to see if it helped the mucus anyway left it a few months and decided to book another appointment as still had all the same symptoms. She then said maybe acid reflux and gave me a 3 month prescription for that didn't help so left it for a while (with COVID was impossible to see GP sometimes) then I had a another health issue I went to see them about that and mentioned I still had my throat problems but was dismissed again after she took a look in my mouth, felt my neck etc but she did refer me for tests with my other health issue.

Fast forward to last month I went back but to a different doctor and he didn't seem worried after he had a feel and look about but said as it had been so long (15 months) he will refer me to an ENT 2ww referral. I had my appointment last week she put a camera down my nose and throat, she asked about my adenoids (I had them out when I was a kid) said she could see something there like maybe regrowth of them? She prescribed me something he for acid reflux? Also she said I had swelling/ulcers at the back of my tongue (way back) so she has referred me for an MRI.

Now I'm so scared that it's been this long and something is seriously wrong and I've had symptoms for 15 months!.. I can't stop worrying, I do smoke (well I've cut down have about 4 a day now) I'm 34 and have 3 kids. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm so scared also don't know if I'm making my symptoms worse through the worry i feel awful. Thanks

  • Hey, im having slightly similar but im early stages, ive had symptoms since April this year, got 1 swollen tonsil, swollen lymph node on neck and gland under chin, each time seen / spoke to Dr said alls fine just an infection or swelling, saw Dr on Friday and referred me to ENT like you for tomorrow, im so nervous its cancer my mam was diagnosed 4 years ago this month and died in the October so having really bad anxiety (not fishing for attention btw) ive barely slept  since April and even less since I got referred.

Sounds like yours may be ok but doing MRI as a precaution? Have they given you any idea how long you could be waiting for it or any other tests? Was it just the camera that they did on your appt?
