Lump both sides of neck

Hi so I've had a lump on the right side of my neck since I was around 15 give or take. I went to the doctor at the time (who I don't think could find the lump, but I told him it was there constantly), and was told not to worry. It's been there ever since, I don't think it's grown or anything, and I have no other symptoms. The lump is movable.

Yesterday, I found a lump on the other side of my neck. It is near the base, so around/above collarbone level. I have extreme anxiety so any time I find anything I always go through the cycle of convincing myself I'm dying. This lump is also movable. I can roll it around easily. However this terrifies me for multiple reasons. 1) I was stupid and googled it. Google says any swelling in that area is worrisome for something like lymphoma or lung cancer. 2) Given that this is a new lump (or new to my knowledge), I'm scared that it means I have lymphoma, and that it means it is spreading. All this even though I have no other symptoms whatsoever.

Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to psych myself up to get it looked at but I'm really terrified of being told it is bad.

Edit: So, after checking today it turns out it's not as close to the collarbone as I thought it was, there is about 1.5 to 2 inches of space between.

  • Hello verycreativename

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with a health concern at the moment. It's good to hear that you did have the lump checked when you first noticed it and the GP didn't feel at that point it was anything to be concerned about.

I'm presuming from your post that you've had this particular lump for some time now but you do mention that you have noticed another lump. We would recommend anyone who notices a new lump gets this checked by their GP as they will be best placed to help.

It's understandable that you're feeling worried given that you've mentioned you struggle with anxiety anyway. Please do avoid searching google for information. It won't give you firm answers but it will increase your anxiety. Give your GP a call tomorrow and get an appointment booked, I'm sure they'll be able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
