Medical oncology appointment after scan

Hi all,

my dad had been suffering severe upper abdominal pain one evening and spent a few days in hospital where they were unsure of what was causing the pain. They found a black mass and were unable to perform any biopsy as it was too near his organs and tricky to operate on. He has had a few scans since and just yesterday we received a letter for an appointment to visit an outpatient appointment with medical oncology. I'm worried as it stated "cancer-center". Is this usually how a diagnoses goes?

  • Hi RM96,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's difficult to advise on your dad's situation but I'm sure that seeing the appointment letter has raised a few concerns and questions.

Hopefully you have received some information to work with up to this point, but either way I hope it's not too long to wait for the appointment and that you can find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • All we have received is an appointment for Friday with the medical oncologist in the cancer center, I think he's expecting a diagnosis. Large black mass was detected a few months back and they've been scanning ever since and now this...

    thank you
