Where do I start?

Hi all,

I've had a sore throat (not really painfull - 2/10) for 12 weeks and went to see my doctor week past Friday. He made an urgent ENT referral and I was seen today.

The consultant performed a nasoscopy and informed me that there was a swelling to the right of my throat which was pushing against my vocal cords, hence the difference in my voice. She also said that she was very concerned as it could be throat cancer. She is arranging an urgent CT scan and also a biopsy under general anesthetic to confirm her concerns.

I know there are lots of people suffering in this world, far worse than me, but this is really scaring me! Can anyone share any information/experience of throat cancer?

  • Hi Gary and welcome to the our community.

I'm sorry about the news you were given after your nasoscopy but fingers crossed your CT scan and biopsy will bring better news.

It's completely understandable, and natural, to be feeling this way right now but I'm glad you've joined us as many of our members have been/are in this position so will know what you're going through right now and will hopefully be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I also hope this information we have about throat cancer will help but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Gary and sending our support your way.

    Kind regards,
