Left leg pain

Hi

I wonder if anyone can shed any light...Ever since I can remember, my left leg has been 'bigger/fatter' than my right leg, though my mum says this was not the case as a child (I am 41 now). For the past 10-20 years, I'm really not sure how long, I have developed red/purple discoloration on my skin all the way from my ankle to my hip (up the back of my leg) it disappears when I press it but otherwise  is always there. A couple of years ago I plucked up the courage to go to the doctor and she could clearly see size/colour issue. I also get lots of 'aches' in my leg. I was referred to the hospital and had a scan to check the circulation and was told there was no problem. The pains have continued and I am more and more upset everyday by the appearance of my leg and also concerned there is something serious underlying. I don't understand how there can be no problem when my left leg looks clearly diffferent from the other one and  causes me discomfort. I would really appreciate finding out if anyone has had a similar experience or thinks they may be able to help identify what the problem may be. Thank you.

  • Welcome to the forum GillWish although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

As the pain has continued and this is impacting on your mental health, it may be worth going back to your GP to let them know and see what options are available to you. If you have more than one doctor at your surgery you could try getting a second opinion. To find out more just click here.

I hope you're able to get this resolved and you hear back from our some of members soon who have contended with something similar.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you very much for your response. Yes I think I do need to get a second opinion from my surgery.
