First visit to Gynae Ambulatory Unit

Hello ladies.I am just going to relay my experience today to help others who are still waiting for their appointments.                  I had had some slight blood loss over the past few weeks so that was why I was referred.I also had some pain at times but not much. I was seen very promptly and told I would have the internal scan and if necessary they would do a biopsy.I was quite worried as now I'm older(62) I find having a normal smear test very uncomfortable. The internal scan was fine,I didn't find it uncomfortable at all.He said the lining of the womb looked thick and so needed to use the hysteroscopy to take a biopsy.I was told I could have it done under a general anaesthetic another day or continue with it without.I was made to feel at ease and decided to go ahead and get it over and done with.It was a small sharp pain and a little discomfort so I just took long breaths. It was over so quickly, I was so glad I had it done.It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.I have to wait 3 weeks for the results of though.Hope this helps someone x

  • Hello Flores,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It will be so helpful to other ladies who are currently experiencing similar symptoms and who have had a similar referral to the gynaecology unit. They will be reassured to hear that you found the internal scan fine and that the biopsy was also over very quickly.

Fingers crossed for good results! 3 weeks is a long time to wait and I hope you won't feel too anxious during this waiting period. It won't be long now until you get some definite answers.

    Best wishes,
