Possible Ovarian Cancer

Hi,

I'm so nervous. I've got to have a total hysterectomy due to an enlarged ovary, 'it's the size of a baby's head, or a small melon' were the consultant's exact words. This will send me into menopause straight away. I'm 53 so it would have happened sooner or later and I'll deal with that. What I'm scared of is what the biopsies might show. My CA125 was 64 at the time I found the lump. I won't find out for 3 weeks until after the op. Has anyone had a similar experience to this? I just keep thinking of my daughter and how she will cope if it's cancer.

  • Hello peasea,

It is normal to be nervous but it sounds like you are in very good hands and I hope everything goes well with the hysterectomy. I completely understand why you are scared about what the biopsies might show and the long wait ahead for results is bound to make you feel very anxious.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are some helpful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Lucie,

Thank you for your kind words. I will have a look at the tips you have sent, thank you, and will also try to stop googling!

    Take care,
