New Breast Lump

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well

I found a lump in my left breast around 15th of May. Seen my GP on the 18th/19th and he thought it was a cyst, and it measured around 1cm, but advised he always got breat lumps double checked at the breast clinic. So I was referred and had an appointment on 3rd of July. The consultant said it wasn't a cyst, but she wasn't sure what it was. Said it could be a Fibroadenoma. I was sent for an ultrasound and the technician told me it looked slightly abnormal, so took 2 core needle biopsies. I then had a mammogram the same day, and the consultant said that it looked like a fairly innocent lump, but it had grown to 5cm. I need to wait another week or so for results. I am out my mind with worry to the point I'm not eating, sleeping and I am having panic attacks now!! It is on my mind 24/7 and I've actually had to take time off of work this week. I am 28, have no history of breast cancer in my family etc.

I guess I'm just looking for people's experiences with this. I've made the mistake of googling and I feel like I have myself diagnosed and dead and buried

Thank you for any advice x

  • Hi User20,

I'm sorry you're going through this - I've just posted an update on a lump I had and having to wait for weeks for a biopsy result - turned out to be benign and either a fibrdoadenoma or phyllodes, which they are recommending I have removed surgically.

Lumps can be a wide variety of things, and there are a lot of possibilites under the benign categories - I know it's easier said than done, but until you know your results for sure try not to worry yourself into a frenzy. I kept googling and reading all sorts of research papers, and in the end the majority of it was completely irrelevant.

    Wishing you all the best
