I had a face to face follow-up appointment to discuss biopsy results this week that I have been anxious about ever since I was sent the letter a few weeks ago
I was convinced that the results were going to be bad news given they weren't calling me or sending me a letter as they normally do for a fibroadenoma (speaking from experience)
Turned out that the lump is benign, which I'm so relived about, but that the histology report was not 100% conclusive in terms of what the lump is (they think it's probably a fibroadenoma but there's also a small possibility that it's a pyllodes tumour which is also benign but can be unpredictable, so they have advised that I have the lump surgically removed.
Not so excited about the idea of surgery and general anaesthetic but so grateful that the lump is benign and would absolutely rather be safe than sorry and have the risk removed entirely
Just wanted to provide an update to reassure anyone else with anxiety about F2F follow ups - they can be scary, especially the waiting period, but it doesn't always point to the 'worst-case' scenario you might imagine.
