Private ENT appointment

Hello to whoever reads this, I am worrying myself sick.

I have had these symptoms for a few months now and spoke to the GP this morning. He's booked me in for a face to face appointment on the 26th July but I am hugely impatient.

If anyone can let me know how they got on with these sort of symptoms I would be grateful.

Intermittent sore throat and dry throat, feels like something is stuck down the left side of my throat. Left tonsil 4 times bigger than right (has grown over the last few months!) tonsil is full of holes and I suffer with infections quite frequently. Feel like I can feel a lump in my neck under my jaw and finding it difficult to swallow. Massively fatigued. Its not painful, red or inflamed but uncomfortable and almost achy.

I have booked a private consultation with an ENT consultant tomorrow because I just need someone to look I can barely swallow. Does anyone know what I can expect from this sort of appointment?

Sorry if this is jumbled I find it hard to articulate myself sometimes.

  • An update :

ENT consultant confirmed I have asymmetric tonsils. He said nothing about it immediately alarmed him however, due to the fatigue I have been feeling would recommend blood tests and a chest x Ray to check for swollen chest lymph nodes. He also said he would recommend having my tonsils out and a biopsy taken. As he knew I have a GP appointment booked he is going to write me a letter stating his recommendations, he would be the consultant I would be referred to via nhs so hope GP takes it seriously. Since the appointment I have a lymph node on my neck that has swollen, although it does not hurt.

The tonsillectomy he would also recommend because he thinks I may have chronic tonsillitis which is also a possibly. I hope this is the cause.

  • I have been to the GP today and they are doing blood tests tomorrow for glandular fever, thyroid and a FBC

  • Your symptoms seem similar to mine, im seeing the ENT tomorrow and am so nervous, one of my tonsils has some swelling but only part at the bottom like a little extra flap, could I ask did they do any tests / cameras down your nose / throat ect on your first visit. I also have lump under my chin (saliva gland) which is larger on one side, slightly painful / tender and a swollen lympth gland on the same side as the swollen tonsil, ive convinced myself its cancer and cant stop worrying. Im constantly tired for the last couple of months but at the same time struggle getting to sleep. Glad your results are not cancer, fingers crossed you can get sorted soon

  • Hi Lauren. My first ENT appointment was private and he didn't look with a camera. I went to the nhs gp today because I cannot afford investigation privately :(

Need to see what the bloods show, if its an infection then good news but if not I will be referred to the hospital so I hope the bloods will paint a better picture of what's going on.

I hope your appointment goes well please keep me updated!

  • Just a quick update, I had my blood test results and my platelets and eosinophil count is slightly high.

Doctor hadn't even put a note to call me back, just no further action and I'm so annoyed.

The fatigue is getting on top of me now, I nearly fell asleep driving the other day had to pull over 3 times, and had to call my partner to help me look after my little boy because I was like a zombie and was terrified I would fall asleep (my son is 2).

I still have a swollen lymph node and no other signs of infection.

I've booked a call with GP for next Friday but don't have much confidence :(
