Post menopausal bleed

Hi I have not bled for over 2 years. During menopause sex could be very uncomfortable but took it as the norm. The past 4 months it has become exceptionally painful so much so I couldn't cope with it anymore. Last week out of the blue I started random bleeding, have had lower abdominal pain as well as pain in back and legs. I was due to have a smear test today but had to cancel. I went to see gynaecologist today who tried to do an internal on me but the pain was too intense. She has now said I need to have a scan and they will need to put me under anaesthetic to do the hysteroscopy.
I am seriously at my wits end wondering how long I'll have to wait to get seen and what it is causing all this pain and discomfort.

  • Hi Chermx5,

sorry to read your messsge and hear about your symptoms.  I'm interested as I had similar thing happen to me recently with regard to a sudden freak bleed 2 years after my last period. Whilst I wasn't experiencing the pain you describe during sex, I did have lower abdominal pain, terrible constant bloating and lower back ache on my right side.  I was referred for an ultrasound and subsequently a hysteroscopy as well, as the ultrasound had shown a slight abnormal thickening of the endometrium.  Some biopsies were taken during the hysteroscopy, which all came back fine.  However, there has been no explanation as to why the bleed might have occurred.  I have since wondered if having the AstraZeneca jab could have triggered the bleed for some reason as it happened around 6 weeks after having my first dose.  Similar reports from other women concerning unusual or irregular bleeding have been reported in the media, so you never know, it could have been a side effect of that.  Have you had the jab at all? Wondering if your incident could be similar ??
I hope you get seen soon - the waiting is the worst bit.  Hopefully everything will be ok.  Thinking of you... take care xxx
