worrying symptoms

Hello everyone,

At the start of May this year I noticed a few lumps behind my ear, I saw the doctor and they said they were lymph nodes but nothing to worry about as i could have had a sore throat (I have not had one for over a year though). Anyway, mid May a lump appeared on the left of my neck which I assumed was a lymph node so again I went to the doctors after two weeks and she said I probabaly had a sore throat, which again I haven't been ill in over a year. She told me to come back in three months if it was still there as that would be concerning.  However I don't trust my doctors as I have not had a sore throat in a long time, the last time i was ill was december 2019.

Over the past few weeks or so an other lump has appeared next to the lump on my neck, as well as nodes on my face just infront of my ears and under my jaw both sides (the lump under my right side of jaw hurt for a few days then stopped). Over the past few days a lump has also appeared each side of my collar bone and I belive in my right armpit too as it hurts when pressure is applied by moving my arm and i found a small lump.

I also have been getting very significant bone pain which started in my lower legs in late May/ early June and has now been hurting in my arms too. I saw my GP about this as my mum was concerned and the GP just said it was growing pain? Im 18 and I have not grown in a few years. Again i dont trust my GP as this pain is so bad and leaves me unable to get out of bed some mornings and walk, I even have to sleep with a pillow between my legs sometimes. My legs also hurt too when you touch the bone at the front and I can barely move my arms to eat my tea sometimes.

I have been getting really hot and sweaty in the evening time when im getting ready for bed and after my shower too in the mornings, I have been taking cold showers the past few weeks because I am just too hot. I have been getting night sweats but I have had them occasionally anyway for at least 5 years so nothing abnormal. I have also been getting breathless too and very heavy/tight chested and having to take my inhaler which was pescribed for my hayfever last year (I don't have asthma).

I have had blood tests multiple times since November for suspected appenticitis, which i didn't have, and all bloods have been normal apart from anemia in my recent bloods in early June which is iron defficiency anemia and I am taking iron tablets for.

I just wondered if i could get an opinion from some people on here as I haven't been able to stop worrying since the start of May. Thanks all

  • As I noticed this is your first post with us and that you still haven't received a reply, I wanted to stop by to say hello and welcome you to the forum, jellycow10.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling poorly and understandably worried about what these lumps could mean. On the other hand. I'm glad your blood tests came back clean and that the doctors didn't find anything sinister up to now.

If you continue to feel pain though, it might be a good idea to ask for a second opinion, if possible.

Hopefully, other Cancer Chat members who experienced a similar situation will come along shortly to share their stories with you. Until then, if you think that speaking with one of our nurses might help, they're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for replying, I saw a different doctor yesterday and I have been referred to haematology with a 2WW for a biopsy of one of the nodes. My GP said that he would have to refer me along the cancer route to get me seen quickly incase it was to be anything bad, I'm feeling super nervous especially because he said my bone pain could be to do with my swollen lymph nodes as well.

  • Hello,

i am in a similar situation currently although my lump is in my groin, was referred for a 2WW appt with haematology. My appointment is this Friday, good luck and I really hope you find some answers x
