Does my dad have bowel cancer?

Hello

So, since the beginning of April this year my dad had been feeling generally unwell, and a constant pain in his upper right side. After going round to his house after not seeing him for a few days i noticed he waz yellow. Ambulance came out and took him in, long story short, turns out he had severe gallbladder infection and perforation and a developing liver abscess.

Since then hes been having numerous bouts of diarrhea throughout the day, getting full after a few mouthfuls and sometimes sickness.

4 weeks ago he went for a colonoscopy where the removed a polyp and also found a large carpet like adenoma which felt firm and took 8 biopsies from that field of change.

3 weeks ago he had an MRI

All we have heard back is that the polp is benign.

He still has diarrhea and has lost so much weight.

This weekend has has just recieved in the post bowel cancer screening kit? Why when they have done these tests already?

Do you think this is bowel cancer? Why haven't we got any results back?

Any feedback would be appreciated please. Thank you x

  • Hi Al and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm sorry that your dad has been rather unwell lately but I'm glad that the polyp turned out to be benign.

Unfortunately no-one here can give you the answers you're seeking but if you have your dad's permission you should be able to discuss this with his doctor and find out the results of his previous bowel test as well.

I know all of this must be rather scary at the moment but we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed your dad's symptoms start to improve soon.

    Kind regards,
