2 week urgent referral to gynaecology- large cyst

Hi,

Been reading posts on here and thought I would write my own events as I don't know how to feel. I have been going to the GP for over a year about a tender lower abdomen that o thought could have been endemetriosis ( I have polycystic ovaries ) or something to do with my previous c section 2 years ago. I then started getting pain in sex, heavier more painful periods and bloating. I then stated with episodes of bad pain in left lower side that had me doubled over. I got referred for a scan where they found a large ovarian cyst. He said he wanted to see me again in a couple of weeks. I then got a phone call 2 days later saying they are getting a second opinion, then a call later that day saying the consultant wants to scan me herself tomorrow. I went back and she told me I have large cyst on left ovary causing it to twist which explains the bad pain coming and going. She said I need urgent surgery and she will contact my GP. I got a call from GP next day saying ive had an urgent referral sent to gynaecology. This was 11 days ago and I've still not heard anything.

im starting to worry the longer I am waiting. I am only 28 woth 2 young children and just don't know what to think. The bloating has got so severe I look pregnant and can't fit in a lot of my clothes.

any advice or info welcome

thanks

  • Hi Lauren and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm not sure if your GP gave you a time frame for your urgent referral, but if they didn't and you're worried you haven't heard anything yet, don't be afraid of getting in touch with them to get an update and find out more.

Waiting for tests is always difficult, even more so in these pandemic times, but you're not alone as many of our members are in a similar position so they will know what you're going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their thoughts and advice.

In the meantime, I hope the tips given in this article will help you whilst you wait and wish you all the best with your surgery.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

thanks for replying. I did chase it yesterday and I got a letter today. I have an appointment on 27th July which is 3 weeks today. Thats to see a gynaecologist so god knows when the surgery will be. We have holidays etc booked in august I just don't want everything ruined because of it, I can't plan or book anything in with the kids. When she said I needed surgery ASAP I thought it meant next few weeks so now I'm thinking it can't be that urgent.

    thanks for your reply
