Biopsy shows white blood cells

My husband has had a lump on either side of his neck for several months. He previously had glandular fever 5 years ago so GP thought likely to be that. Blood tests came back normal so he had an ultrasound with biopsy. Results came after 10 days and GP said the lumps with full of of white blood cells and is referring him to haematology as thinks it's his body fighting an infection. I'm completely freaking out assuming it's cancer (guilty of googling). He has been tired recently but otherwise fit and well till few days ago when he developed a cough but our daughter has also had a cough/cold. Would the biopsy have shown lymphoma and would the GP have said it he thought that what it is? Does the fact it took 10 days for results mean anything? Is there anything else that might cause the mass of white blood cells?

  • Hello Scampimax

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has had some health concerns recently and that following the biopsy he's now waiting on an appointment with the Haematologist. We know that this period of uncertainty can be very difficult and it's not uncommon for people to worry and think of the worst case scenarios.

It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call to chat things through. I'm sure they will be able to offer some support and advice to help. If you would like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, he won't have to wait too long for the appointment and the Consultant will be able to give you both some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
