Mouth Cancer First Hospital Appointment

Hello

I have a fast tracked suspected cancer hospital referral next week as I have a lump under my tongue and aching jaw (it's not infected).

Can people tell me what happened at your first hospital appointment please? I've scared myself googling symptoms of mouth cancer (I know I shouldn't have!) and am now worried about my first hospital appointment. Someone has let me know at their first appointment there were no tests eg biopsy, just an examination and discussion of symptoms with tests coming later. However I would have preferred a biopsy there and then (so less time for worrying and less appointments) but is this not likely?

Thanks so much x

  • Hi GreenEyes and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm not sure if you've seen the reply one of our nurses gave you when you were asking Irate about this a few days ago, but if not you can have a look at it just here.

As you'll see, there is a link to some information detailing what may happen at your appointment so do be sure to have a look through and if you have any follow up questions you're welcome to talk things through with one of our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best for next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
