Amelanotic melanoma biopsy

Hi all, I had 2 surgical excisions on 24th June . I've previously had basal cell to my scalp in 2019 and now suspected amelanotic melanoma to upper arm and back. Is there anyone that has experience of wait time for results. They were vague when asked said 2 weeks but maybe more with covid. Everyone keeps saying no news is good news but I'm not sure if I should hang onto that!! Thanks ️x

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are waiting for these results & I know that the waiting is the worst part of this. Unfortunately Covid is making results come back a lot later than usual. It used to be 2 weeks, however, most hospitals are now taking anything from 4 to 8 weeks. If it were me and I hadn't heard by the 4 week mark, I would ring up the consultant's secretary & ask if a) they were back and b) how long do they think it will be before I heard from them. Sometimes they can come back from histology reasonably quickly but are then held up waiting to be discussed at the weekly Multi Disciplinary Team Meeting (all results, good or bad are discussed before they can be given to the patient).

Good luck, I hope you're not waiting too long and they bring you good news. Please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
