Remember, the nurse has NOT told you she has seen cancer-she has seen inflammation. It is standard to refer you to get this checked out but does not mean you have aggressive cancer. It will most likely have another explanation, but they are following standard guidelines. And yes, I’ve seen women referred before a smear test where the cervix has looked inflamed. I’ve had advanced cervical cancer, but the tumour could be seen with the naked eye, and was certainly much more serious,please try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves and please don’t google or it will make your anxiety much worse. You had a normal smear last time, so that is also a good thing-cervical cancer is very slow growing normally and takes years to develop and the screening programme picks up any abnormal changes before they develop further. x

Thank you for replying. I am just driving myself mad with worry, I'm my own worst nightmare sometimes, I was normal last time and had no symptoms but now I'm thinking about it I feel like I'm imagining symptoms to justify a bad result which is totally bizarre! but I'm hoping for the best just thinking the worst. Oh I'm sorry for your diagnosis, is everything ok now? X
