Prostate help

Hi,

im really stuggling and need advise.

I am I 22 year old male, have really had anxiety, but no family history of prostate cancer (that I'm aware of). However some time last year, I would get a sensation of needing a wee just after I had one just before I would go to sleep. I would never get up in the night to go for one and as soon as I would wake up in the morning I would wee just like I would normally do. I spoke with my sister and she has exactly the same symptoms of me and she had been diagnosed with overactive bladder.

with this in mind I never thought anything of it, I looked up symptoms and obviously my age bracket puts me at a very low risk.

however, just these last few weeks to months I have been getting a sensation of needing a wee quite a lot. But it's a sensation where if I go I know not much urine would pass. But when I do need to wee, my flow is fine and I don't have to strain. It's just a feeling like my bladder isn't completely empty.  I went to see my gp and they said it would be extremely rare for me to have prostate cancer and my symptoms aren't that associated with prostate cancer and she said Thinks I also have OAB. However, the gp refused to give me a exam and a PSA blood test, said they don't give people my age exams and blood tests and referred me to urology. Since I have been to the gp, I have started getting a tingling sensation in my hip and back. But it is only when I sit or lay down. I rang my gp back and they told me to take pain killers. It hasn't stopped so I rang them back and they just said the same thing again.

I have since spoken to urology and because I've not been put through as an urgent, it could take up to a year to get seen. This is making me more anxious and I'm constantly thinking about getting the sensation and the tingling, in turn making it worse. I have tired to contact my gp back to be seen but they have said wait for urology. I really don't know what to do.

  • Hello Lewisb123 and welcome to our forum,

I can understand why you are feeling anxious about this sensation and the tingling and why you would want to be seen sooner if it could take up to a year to be seen. That is a long time and I do hope you won't have to wait that long.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to try and speak to a different GP just to get a second opinion? You can find out how to do this on this page. I hope that you manage to talk to someone about this and that you get the reassurance you need. Try not to get overly anxious about it as it sounds like the doctor is pretty sure it is nothing to be too concerned about and as you said you can get caught in a vicious cycle where thinking about your symptoms all the time makes them a lot worse.

I keep everything crossed for you that everything turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,
