CA125 levels high

Hi, I had 2 large dermoid cysts removed from my ovaries about 3 years ago.  I can't remember if  I ever had high CA125 levels with them.  Fast forward 3 years and I had been getting sharp pains on my left hand side just beside my scars from previous operation.  I went to doctors who did a CA125 test and referred me for an ultrasound.  The CA125 results have come back at level 125.  I have a gynaecology appointment for next week where I assume they will scan me.  I'm so scared it's something sinister with those high levels.  I'm 39 with 3 young kids.  Anyone else had high levels like this ?

Thanks

Update

Just an update on my nightmare, after another ultrasound external and internal everything showing as normal.  Only thing they could see was some free fluid that they aren't worried about.  I've also had my ca125 repeated and it's come back down to normal levels.  I'm waiting on a consultant review and hopefully that will be me discharged.  I'm hoping my post can reassure anyone in a similar position.  Ca125 levels being raised can mean many things not just cancer.  I was on the last day of a brutal period, that felt like my insides were being boiled by red hot pokers, when my 1st ca125 was done.  It may have been this that caused the raised levels.

  • Welcome to the forum Palegirl although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

As you'll see here, high ca125 levels can occur for many reasons so try not to think the worst. I know that's easier said than done but you're not alone so many of our members have been in similar situations and hopefuly you'll hear back from them soon.

Wishing you all the best for next week.

  • Thanks for replying,

I'm out of my mind with worry.  I had an ultrasound carried out today that showed a complex cyst with some free fluid.  I had more bloods taken and I have been red flagged for an MRI.  Anyone else been through this and can help put my mind at ease?

  • Hi Palegirl,

I am sorry to read that you are going through this right now.  It's hard not to worry about it but at least the cyst has been identified and that the medical staff are doing all they can to determine what it is.

I can't give you any advice in terms of what to expect as I'm currently undergoing diagnosis and treatment (most likely removal) of suspected dermoid cysts but I also got worried when my consultant wanted to me to do additional blood tests and scans but I try and tell myself sometimes they need to do that to get a better understna dof what's happening inside our bodies before just going straight in with surgery (as that carries different types of risk in itself).

Do you have your MRI scheduled in already?  Hopefully it is soon ans that your appointment to review the scans with your Dr is very soon after the MRI too.

Hope the cyst is nothing serious and that it can be treated easily but do keep us posted.  Wishing you all the very best.

  • Hi Sawaii,

Thank you so much for your reply.  I have just received my MRI appt for next week.  My consultant is going to call me the 1st week of August when he has all my results.  I have honestly done nothing but cry as last time I had cysts my ca125 levels were fine.  I can't remember if I'd any free fluid with the dermoids.  I'm consumed with this morning noon and night, I have a real sense of dread  that it sinister this time   everything I'm reading on line is pointing to a miligancy.  I'm trying to brush it all of with my partner and family.  I don't want them to know I'm worrying.

I hope that your cysts get operated on soon, my experience with dermoid removal was fine.  I got keyhole surgery but they had to do a c section cut to get the biggest one out.  The recovery was fine after that
