Throat Cancer

My husband started with sore throat, high temperature and cough a month ago, with some hoarseness, he’s had two lots of antibiotics but haven’t really helped. He still has a sore throat a month later and it hurts to swallow, still has a cough and has had a few ulcers on his tongue. He has a ENT appointment on the 12th July. Do these symptoms sound like cancer? Any advice I would be very grateful

  • Hello MommaBear2,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! I am so sorry to hear that the antibiotics haven't helped and your husband is still struggling to swallow and has symptoms a month later. Hopefully the ENT appointment on the 12th July will shed some light on what is causing this. I also hope that you will meet other members of the forum who have had similar symptoms and that they will share their experience with you.

Unfortunately no one here will be able to tell you whether these symptoms could be cancer as only the medical experts will be able to give your husband a proper diagnosis but you can find out more on this page from our website on throat cancer symptoms. There's a nice little video there about symptoms to look out for.

I am keeping everything crossed for your husband and I hope that he feels better very soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I was suffering from a random all of a sudden sore throat and lost my voice to the point I was whispering. I also had hard time swallowing like it was tonsillitis and my mouth kept going dry. I immediately went to the doctor (online) and was told it was laryngitis and there was nothing they can do as its probably viral and to gargle salt water. 1,2,3 weeks passed I still had this I chased up every week and finally given antibiotics and told to get a throat spray which seemed to have helped for a day or 2. A month later today the doctor finally saw me in person and said it sounds like throat cancer and referred me to ENT with a 2 week wait. She advised because I am 30yeats old they may not see me as this tends to happen more to men in their 40s. I find this totally discriminating but another story. I am so so so worried and worried about my son if I was to have throat cancer.

Please can you update me on ur situation. I hope its not what you expected?

    Thank you x
