Waiting for breast biopsy results

Hi all.

I'm 33 and 20 weeks pregnant. Went to breast clinic last night after waiting a month for an appointment after being referred by GP. I had ultrasound but she still wasn't sure what it was so I had to have a biopsy done as well. As if the month wait wasnt long enough I now have to wait another 10 days for any further info. She mentioned she was hopeful it is a fibroid adenoma but can't be sure. I know that 80% of biopsies come back as benign but it is so difficult to not think about that 20% and the worst case ya know? Don't really know the point of this post other than wondering if anyone else is currently waiting for biopsy results. I've taken today off work as I've just stressed myself out so much :(

  • Hey [@xemx]‍

I am currently waiting for my breast clinic appointment (it's next week thurs).  I am in such a state.  My lump is like a large marble underneath my skin and is rock hard, I can't believe I have only just noticed it if I'm honest... I have already diagnosed myself and literally cannot cope :(

What did your lump feel like? Is it moveable? Does it feel round/oval? Is it hard or soft?  Does it hurt?

I have read loads about fibroadenomas and how common they are!  And how most need to be biopsied as they appear similar to BC lumps on U/S.   I can sit here and say all I want "don't worry and 80% of lumps are benign etc but I know that's not going to help as I cannot even take my own advise!!

please let me know how you get on with your results, there are so many of us in this together and in limbo! x

I'm sorry to hear you are going through something similar but it is also comforting to know that I'm not alone.

So first the stress started when I was told there was a 12 week waiting list for breast clinic in my area! Luckily this tuesdsay I had a call to say they put on extra clinics so I could go down last night - so I waited 5 weeks in the end from referral, that was hard enough. Then had the ultrasound but she couldn't tell what it was, hence also having the biopsy. So now another 10 day wait for results.

She said mine is 2.5cm and i would say it is oval. It is hard and doesn't move and is in the breast tissue. It's not painful in general but as I am pregnant my boobs have been pretty tender anyway so hard to tell. I must admit I dont normally  check myself but since being pregnant I probably have felt them more. However my husband said hes sure he would have noticed it if it was there before, so who knows. But I am kicking myself a bit that I didn't notice it earlier.

Like you say, it's easier said than done not to worry and remembering that most biopsies come back fine. But as humans we are wired to think of 'dangers' I.e. worst case scenario aren't we. But fingers crossed it will come back fine for us both.

I will be sure to keep you updated and same goes for you when you have your ultrasound xx

  • How have you gotten on today worried? Have kept everything crossed for you.

  • Hey [@G.]‍

    so kind thank you!!!
So yes, went today, had U/S and 3 biopsies.  Boob is very sore now!  Cried probably a million times.  They said it doesn't look concerning but will wait to see what the biopsy results say.  Should get the results Thurs afternoon (so not a long wait, thought it usually took around 5-10 days!).
I definitly feel more relieved (but don't want to jump for joy just yet), I will definitely try and eat something tonignt for dinner now I'm a little less anxious!
thanks for checking up on me!  Hope you're ok? X

  • Oh glad they can get the results so quick! Definitely get some food in you tonight! I'm ok actually. I've settled down a bit over the weekend and have a lot of other stuff on this week so keeping distracted! Let us know how you get on on Thursday!

  • [@worried9211]‍

That sounds really reassuring! Try not to worry too much (great news that the biopsy results will be there quickly!) and take heart that they didn't think it looked suspicious. Look after yourself, try to get some food and a decent night's sleep if possible - and no heavy lifting or anything like that on the side you had the biopsies!

  • [@G.]‍

yes I know! So pleased! Ahhh I'm pleased you have settled down and yes, keeping busy is the best to keep your mind occupied!  Thanks, I will do.

you keep me updated too x

  • Will do lovely. Mine's Monday afternoon so I'll come back and let you know.x

  • [@dustcat]‍

yes that's what I am holding on to! Going to TRY and forget about it for now til Thurs.

thanks for checking up on me! Have a lovely evening x

  • [@worried9211]‍

so sorry I didn't reply sooner, for some reason I don't think I got the notifications on this thread, strange!

I am so glad that you feel more relieved after what they said about it not looking concerning, so that's positive. Also good news that it seems your results should come back quicker than expected too! Maybe they aren't too busy in your area but whatever the reason, the sooner the better :)

I am still waiting for my biopsy results, been 7 days now so hoping they won't be much longer to come back. Let us know how you get on when your results come in x
