Large hard breast lump in upper outer quadrant

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and extend a warm hello to whoever is reading this post.

Around 10 days ago I found a large, hard, irregular shaped lump on the outer quadrant of my right breast.

I've tried measuring it and it seems to be around 4 cm x 2 cm.

I noticed it prior to my period and it has since stayed, possibly even changed shape a little extending towards my armpit (it's not very round and the extension part feels a little like a twig stuck in a walnut).

It does not move around the breast and is visible with my arms up and down.

Over the past two days I've had some sharp armpit pains come and go although they don't last long. There also seems to be tiny little spots appearing on the skin above the lump (8 to be exact).

Phoned my GP 4 days ago and had a phone consultation the same day, She said she wanted to call me in on the day for an urgent checkup, as my mother's had 2 sets of breast cancers in the past, but can only book me in for Friday 2nd June. So, I'm waiting...

I know nothing can be said for certain until I actually see my GP, however just wanted to ask if anybody else has had a similar experience with pre-diagnosis?

I'm 29 and work a lot. I should normally be away for a project on the date of my appointment so I'm not quite sure how to talk with work or explain the situation, without a proper diagnosis.

Apologies for the lengthy paragraph and any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nes x

  • Hey [@Nesli]‍

I am going through the exact same (large hard lump, mine feels abit rounded but I'm not sure) it feels like it then goes into breast tissue or something so feels attached.  I have my breast clinic appointment next Thursday (am also 29yrs old) and I am sick with worry so totally know what you're going through.  I don't however have spots or armpit pains but that doesn't mean anything.

make sure you let us know how you get on tomorrow!  It's nice to speak to ppl going through the same thing! X

  • Hi [@worried9211]‍

Thank you for the reply. It really does help talking with people our age going through the same.

Saw my GP today and I think the expressionon on her face said it all.

She said my lump looks around 5cm and went on to ask about why I had not visited sooner.

She was slightly worried and called another doctor to ask for a second opinion.

End result: Urgent referral to a breast clinic. Appointment in 1-2 weeks time.

Weirdly, I don't feel panicked even though her reaction was very worrying.

I think I'm just ready to find out and deal with whatever it is as best I can.

Please keep us updated with your appoint next Thursday xx

    Hi Nes and worried,

I'm also 29 and came across your post looking for people a similar age. Glad I'm not alone in that!

I found a firm irregular breast lump in the outer upper quadrant of my right breast about 6 weeks ago but figured it could be cyclical. It's seems to be a little bigger so I got an appointment to see the nurse practitioner and have been referred to breast clinic. I've since noticed a couple of hard nodules in my armpit (presumably lymph nodes) and I've had some clear nipple discharge.

I was pretty calm about it last week but as the appointment gets closer I'm increasingly *** my pants and feeling ridiculous for being anxious!

Hoping we all get the all clear, keep us updated as you go!

  • Hey [@Nesli]‍

You are so brave facing it head on as you are! I am a wreck, aren't able to eat or sleep. Keep calling the clinic crying asking if there's any cancellations.  Bet they think I'm nuts. 6 days to go!

what did the 2nd doc say when she asked for a 2nd opinion, were they also concerned?  My doc didn't say much, just done the urgent referral.... that worried me!

However, your GP cannot tell for certain and only the U/S and biopsies can... you may get good news!  The waiting is the hardest, I also just want to know what I'm dealing with (but hoping and praying it's something like a fibroadenoma o something!).

will let you know how I get on.... (if I remember to and I'm not hysterical from reviving bad news) x

  • Hey [@G.]‍

ahh it's nice to speak to people going through the same!  Is your lump mobile or immobile?  Also when you say lump is it a "mass" or more like a lump like it feels like a grape under your skin? (Sorry for the million questions)  I wouldn't even have a clue how to find my lymph nodes in my armpits!  Don't think I'll try because ill probably make myself ill even more!

glad you've been referred!  And glad you're calm!!! Why can I be like both of you!!!! Let us know when you get your appointment date for the breast clinic! X

  • I'm not that calm, my lovely mum could tell and has said she'll come stay at mine before the appointment as she lives two hours away. My appointment is a week on Monday.

It's more of a mass than a distinct lump. Not mobile but skin moves over it easily. It seems reasonably large as well, one edge is towards my armpit and the other is near my nipple. Hopefully a fibroadenoma. I thought I would be calmer as I'm a Radiographer and familiar with the clinics but I'm actually worse, hoping that the clinic being at the hospital I work at will mean I'm calmer on the day because I know the staff!

I think whatever level of worry is normal. It's hard to remember 80% are benign when you're waiting to be seen!

  • Hey [@G.]‍

oh sorry I misread (lack of sleep and food!) you said you WAS calm but now you're not!  Awwwww that's lovely of her!  Nothing like the comfort of your mum!  Oh ok great, I hope it comes around quick for you!

oh right I see! Could just be dense fibrous tissue?  Mine feels like that all the time!  Mine is a hard Large marble lump so very distinct :(

Oh wow! Your a radiographer!  I'm sure your colleagues will support you on the day.... but yes 80% is high!!! I'm a pessimist so always look to the 20%.

hope we all get answers soon x

  • Hopefully the distinct shape is reflected in the ultrasound and it's a cyst or fibroadenoma!

I'm really hoping it's fibrous changes in mine but it's hard not to worry.

Trying my best to keep busy at the minute, I'm off work with a broken hand so I've too much time to worry!

  • Hey [@G.]‍

tbh half is marble, the other half is attached to something I believe breast tissue.  So not feeling positive at all!  I had a call earlier from the clinic and they've been able to bring my appointment to Monday!!!  I feel soooo relieved I'll get answers sooner but soooo anxious and sick to my stomach that I'll find out my fate.

Yours does sound like that!! I have a good feeling for you!!  Ahhhh that must be hard... even me working from home isn't keeping my mind occupied so I really do feel for you!

  • That's great news! Let us know how you get on!
