Hi :)
Is it possible to have ovarian cancer after normal CA-125 test?
I have had a call from my gynaecologist today to say she has referred my case to the cancer team as urgent and will call me this week to let me know if they are going straight for surgery or they want me to have a CT scan first.
After a normal CA-125 test, however, I was assuming that, although I could still need surgery, I wouldn't need to worry about cancer? Both the consultant and my GP have tried to sign me off work from today which worried me! I work in an office (and need the money) so I can still manage to work with pain/fatigue, my job is not strenuous so I declined for now.
I went to my GP in March due to abdominal pain, weight loss (3-4 dress sizes so far.....that can continue if the rest of the symptoms stop ), constant diarrhoea, bleeding from my bottom, bloating and nausea which I thought was all due to endometriosis.
I had ultrasounds which showed that my womb lining seemed ok but there was something in my ovary which they thought was an ectopic pregnancy (not unless sperm can live up there for several years ). I had an MRI on the 11th to take a better look at the cyst. I've had a sigmoidoscopy too which was clear.
I was told today that the cyst is complex, partially ruptured and bleeding (which is causing the additional pain under my ribs and in my chest and back due to the fluid). It is 7cm x 9cm.
I am more than happy that the medical team are being cautious and I am so, so grateful for that but ever since I heard it was being referred to the cancer team I have been inwardly panicking.
Do you think I can stop stressing?! I know I will be having surgery and that doesn't bother me (I've had surgery in the past for a cyst which turned out to be a pre cancerous mucucele appendix, etc) but I need to know I can stop panicking about cancer :'( Throughout all of this I have been thinking "it's fine, it will be (X, Y, Z) and that I have nothing to worry about but now the doctors are concerned I am worried :(
Also, can a bleeding cyst/fluid in the abdomen make it harder to breathe?
Thank you if you made it to the end of my rambling
